    The course is combination of theoretical and experimental laboratory instructions on stoichiometry calculation, calculations involving mole, molarity, pH, concentrations, writing and balancing of chemical equation, and inter conversion of units.

  • course learning outcomes:

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Apply the rules of significant figures in calculations. SI units and conversion.
    - Know chemical reactions, equations and balancing.
    - Perform % concentration, % acid assay, and molarity & normality calculations, ppm, ppb etc.
    - Recall acid/base terminology and calculate the pH (or pOH) of a strong acid (or base) given its concentration.
    - Calculate the pH (or pOH) of a weak acid (or base) given its concentration and ionization constant.
    - Stoichiometry calculation from balanced chemical equations and % yield.
    - Thermochemistry.
