SPEE 028 : Controller and Control loops

  • course description:

    The focus of this course is to introduce the participants to process control loop (open and closed) systems and their elements and signals. The course also explores controller and control loop principles such as feedback controllers, process & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and direct- & reverse- actions of a controller. In addition, the course investigates various characteristics of control loop systems, including control modes, feedback stability, gain, and tunability while demonstrating principles of proper selection and improvement.

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Identify and compare the feedback control system, open loop system & close loop system and identify their elements.
    - Recognize and utilize PID diagrams.
    - Understand controller direct- & reverse-modes.
    - Identify and realize the significance and effects of proportional, integral & derivative control modes.
    - Apply the concept of controller tuning for different tuning methods.
    - Understand and compare different advanced control strategies such as cascade control, feed-forward control & ratio-control.
