    Switchgears are important components in electrical distribution systems and their operation affects the overall performance of the system. This course will cover the operating principles of different kinds of switchgears and also the factors that affect their design.

  • course learning outcomes:

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Identify Switchgear and its ratings.
    - Describe the fundamentals of operating switchgears.
    - Understand the working of relay and circuit breaker.
    - Differentiate between various current interrupting devices.
    - Understand Auto Re-closing.
    - Understand the factors affecting circuit breaker design.

  • Course outlines:

    - Introduction to switchgears.
    - Understand the operation of switchgear components like CT’s, VT’s, isolator, disconnecting switches, fuses, relays and circuit breakers.
    - Working of overcurrent relay, Under and over voltage relay, Earth fault relay, Impedance relay, reverse power relay.
    - Air circuit breakers, Oil circuit breaker, SF6 circuit breaker, Vacuum circuit breaker.

  • practical aspects of the course:

    - Demo of operation of switchgears.
    - Demo of working of relays and circuit breakers during normal condition and during faults.
