SPCH 039 : Crude Oil Processing

SPCH 039 : Crude Oil Processing

  • course description:

    This course will provide the basic knowledge required for understanding processes and operating issues in crude oil processing facilities. It is designed to improve the technical communication between operators and engineers as we develop an in-depth understanding of process operations.

  • course learning outcomes:

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Describe crude oil and crude oil assay.
    - Recognize the fundamental aspects of crude oil processing techniques, including the equipment used in process units.
    - Explain the various processing methods like CDU, VDU, Hydrotreating, FCC, Catalytic reforming, Hydrocracking and Coking.
    - Outline the process flow diagrams of refineries.

  • Course outlines:

    - Crude oil Classification, Composition & Crude Assay.
    - Conversion, separation, treatment and finishing processes.
    - Atmospheric and Vacuum distillation units.
    - Secondary Processing includes naphtha hydrotreating, Cracking processes, thermal and catalytic, FCC Unit, Reforming and isomerization processes.
    - Natural Gas Processing.

  • practical aspects of the course:

    - Evaluation of crude oil properties.
    - Petroleum products testing methods.

  • who should attend?
