SPCH 038 : Reading Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&Id’s)

    This course concentrates on different types of drawing related to any process such as piping & instrumentation diagrams including the symbols related to pipes, instruments, and equipment. The course also contains block diagram, symbol process flow diagram, and plot plan.

  • course learning outcomes:

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Identify process equipment, P&ID’s and related symbols.
    - Trace various processes, identify control loops, different types of instruments and their location.

  • Course outlines:

    - Process flow diagrams: process flow and direction, major equipment, major instrument loop and guidelines for reading process flow diagrams.
    - Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s): equipment symbols, piping & pipeline symbols, instrument & valve symbols, process line symbols and guidelines for reading P&ID’s.
    - Plot Plan: Symbols and reading plot plan.

    - Unit process line tracing with the aid of the unit’s P&IDs.
