    This course includes the concept of dimensions, units and their conversion, process variables, temperature and pressure, material balances for non-reacting and reacting systems, recycle, bypass and purge streams, energy balances at steady and unsteady states in chemical engineering processes, simultaneous material and energy balances.

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Apply basic engineering units in solving problems and interconvert between system units.
    - Formulate and solve material and energy balances for system that may include single and multiple units, chemical reactions, phase changes, recycles, purges, and bypasses.
    - Set and solve simple transient material and energy balances.
    - Describe efficient methods of solving problems encountered after graduation at the workplace.
