    This course explains the principles of formulating and solving material balances, energy balances, and simultaneous material and energy balances and their application on process units such as distillation, extraction, humidification and reactors. It also familiarizes participants with units, unit conversion, physical properties and behavior of gases and liquids.

    At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
    - Apply dimensional equations in unit conversions and calculations involving process variables.
    - Use systematic methods to solve mass and energy balances problems.
    - Develop problem-solving skills.

    - Units and dimensions, the mole unit.
    - Physical and chemical properties of mixtures.
    - The chemical equation and stoichiometry.
    - Material balances: Algebraic solution techniques, Recycle, bypass and purge calculations.
    - Energy balances on processes with physical changes. Energy balances on processes with chemical changes.
