Laboratory Technician Program


– Develop and apply concepts or knowledge essential to a thorough understanding of chemical analysis.
– Be able to use information necessary to understand and execute the lab procedures to prepare reagents, standard
solutions, test samples as well as instruments and glassware to run the required tests.
– Analyze and interpret data in relation to test results.
– Know the responsibilities which a lab technician may be asked to shoulder (Be aware of ethical issues).
– Practice safety while working in chemical labs.
– Be familiarized with standard test methods (ASTMs, ISOs, etc.) and skills to accurately and precisely perform comprehensive
whole sample analysis of oil, gas, water and solids.


The course consists of three phases, each phase (13 weeks / 35 hours per week).

Phase I :

includes the following topics:
– Laboratory safety, quality control, analytical chemistry I, organic chemistry I and laboratory techniques.

Phase II :

includes the following topics:
– Electrochemical analysis, Colorimetric analysis, analytical chemistry II, organic chemistry II and molecular Spectroscopic analysis.

Phase III :

includes the following topics:
– Petroleum analysis, water analysis, corrosion, chromatography, atomic Absorption, and petroleum geology.


39 weeks (1,365 training contact hours).
