This course introduces the student to the design of various types of Emergency Communication Systems (ECS), including advanced audio fire alarm systems. The course will include code requirements for notification, communication design principles, designing for audibility and intelligibility, and a detailed discussion of various types of emergency communication systems. Attendees will be provided with practical instruction on NFPA 72 requirements, risk analysis, emergency response plans, and emergency communication messaging.
At the end of the course, the participants will be able to;
- Understand the code requirements that pertain to notification systems.
- Understand basic design principles of notification, including: voltage drop, signal loss, pathway survivability, and performance-based design.
- Discern between audibility vs. intelligibility.
- Understand the components of effective ECS messaging.
- Identify the types of ECS systems.
- Understand the basics of ECS system risk analysis.
- Identify the elements of a successful inspection testing & maintenance (ITM) program.
- Design, construct, and alter new and existing means of egress.
- Available on request from Jensen Hughes.
